Nest defence against avian brood parasites is promoted by egg-removal events in a cowbird–host system

Recent studies of birds have found that the antiparasite behaviour of host species is modified by social learning. We tested whether individual or social learning modifies the nest defence of yellow warblers, Setophaga petechia, against the parasitic brown-headed cowbird, Molothrus ater. Using field experiments, we exposed warblers to simulated events of nest parasitism and predation, or allowed them to observe conspecifics mobbing a cowbird. Intensity of nest defence by yellow warblers was greater after simulated threats at their nest than after they had observed mobbing of cowbirds by conspecifics. The relationship between Polypharmacy and Trajectories of Cognitive Decline in People with Dementia: a large representative cohort study

Polypharmacy, defined through the number of medications prescribed, has been linked to a range of adverse health outcomes in people with dementia. It is however unclear whether a numerical threshold of concurrently prescribed drugs is a suitable predictor for cognitive decline. We aimed to test associations between polypharmacy and both short-term (six months) and long-term (three years) cognitive trajectories in patients with incident dementia. Badano wpływ sterylizacji metodą napromieniania strumieniem elektronów oraz deformacji plastycznej (zgniatania, rys. 1) polietylenu ultrawielkocząsteczkowego (UHMW-PE), stosowanego do wytwarzania panewek endoprotez stawu biodrowego, na masę molową polimeru. Stwierdzono, że sterylizacja wpływa na utleniającą destrukcję makrocząsteczek polimeru, której stopień zależy od użytej dawki promieniowania (zmniejszenie masy molowej masowo średniej).
